SD PRSA at 50
It was on December 11, 1959, that San Diego was awarded an official chapter in the national Public Relations Society of America. Six local professionals signed the application. There are now 255 members of the local chapter, plus dozens more who continue to contribute to the field although not official members of PRSA. In 2009, the national PRSA organization has 32,000 registered members, up from six when San Diego joined the group 50 years ago. The 2009 International Convention of PRSA will be held in San Diego November 7-10, bringing thousands of PR professionals from around the world to learn about the current skills required for success.
It has been quite an eventful 50 years—for San Diego and the public relations professionals who contributed in so many areas. Look around as you wander though San Diego, and you will likely see the unseen hand of public relations at work.
