About
The San Diego chapter was founded in 1959 by six local PR professionals. More than 50 years later, the chapter has expanded to include the Imperial Valley and has grown to its current membership of approximately 250 members.Members represent a wide range of experience levels, and their practice areas include corporate, agency, government, nonprofit, education and counseling.
The San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of PRSA (PRSA SD/IC) offers a full range of programs and services, each organized by volunteer committees. These include, but are not limited to, professional development opportunities, a job board, bimonthly member newsletter, public service program, annual awards program, a new professionals group, social events, accreditation (APR) program and liaison to the student chapter at San Diego State University.
The chapter maintains a broad range of professional development activities to strengthen the professionalism of its members. Membership luncheon meetings are held monthly, usually the third Tuesday of the month, featuring a different topic of professional interest.
The chapter is led by a 17-member board of directors: president, president-elect, secretary, treasurer, immediate past president, three assembly delegates, and nine directors-at-large. The chapter's daily business affairs are managed by an outside association management firm.
PRSA firmly believes that professional integrity is based on sound and ethical practice. Upon joining the Society, each member agrees to adhere to PRSA's Code of Professional Standards for the Practice of Public Relations.
PRSA SD/IC is one of 109 chapters within the Public Relations Society of America, the largest organization in the world for public relations professionals. PRSA SD/IC is a member of the national organization's Western District, which includes nine other chapters: California Inland Empire, Colorado, Hawaii, Las Vegas Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Pike's Peak, Southern Arizona (Tucson) and Valley of the Sun (Phoenix).
In 2009, the chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary, and hosted the PRSA International Conference.
